Fees
The fee schedule for editing services depends upon the amount of editing work a book requires. Some novels require extensive editing, most commonly due to tense changes (i.e. the author switches from past tense to present tense frequently) or other grammatical errors throughout the manuscript.
I charge $1-$2 a page for proofreeding, editing, and ebook or print formatting.
Manuscripts with frequent grammatical errors require special attention, either from an editor or the author. After reading a sample chapter, if a novel requires extensive editing, I offer three options:
1) Pay As You Go: the author and editor negotiate a fair price per chapter, and editing can be discontinued at any point.
2) Full Extensive Edit: a price is negotiated for a complete edit of the book, depending on the level of editing required.
3) Edit and Explain: on a tight budget? I also offer an "Edit and Explain" service - where I will edit a chapter of your book and explain each edit I do, pointing out common errors and how you can fix them yourself throughout the rest of the novel. I will also offer tips to help you improve the syntax, word usage, and flow. You can then apply these edits to the remaining chapters yourself. Depending on the size of the chapter, this service is about $50.
